Steps to Create a Personal Branding Website

For individuals trying to build a personal brand, a well-structured, strategic website is a critical part of your success.

In this post, I will go through 5 tips you can use to build a great personal brand website.

1. Create Your Voice

For many individuals entering into the personal branding business world, they aren’t sure what their voice is. Whether you’re looking to be an expert in mental health, an Excel consultant, or you’re an athlete looking to expand your brand, how you’re portrayed online is critical to accomplishing your goals. Here are some tips you can use when creating your voice:

  • Be authentic – It’s critical to be yourself and be authentic. People online can smell a phony a million miles away
  • Choose the Right Tone – For medical professionals, you’ll want to portray professionalism and knowledge. for an athlete or artist, you can be a lot edgier to reach your target audience better. It’s important choose the right tone so you can best connect with your fans and followers
  • Be Consistent – Being consistent is a tip that will help you grow steadily. If someone were to scroll through your timeline or website, you wouldn’t want it to look like you have multiple personalities, unless that was your brand!

2. Figure Out Who Your Audience Is

Once you have your voice, it’s important to know who you’re trying to communicate with. If your a mental health professional, your audience is probably patients. If you’re a movie star, your audience is probably people who like your movie type and may purchase your product. Here are some ways you can figure out who your audience is:

  • Who pays the bills? Figure out who pays your salary. You could have immigration lawyer clients, fans, or patients, or a combination of all three! Learn who is willing to pay for your service or product, even if you are the service or product.
  • Who do you enjoy working with? It’s important that you’re having fun. Working for people you don’t like is not fun. Learn who you love working with
  • Who enjoys your style? If you enjoy a certain type of person but they don’t enjoy you, you have a problem. It’s important that both of these are married together in a cohesive way.

3. Find Ways to Accomplish Your Goals on your Website

Why are you building a personal brand website? For example, if you have a mental health treatment company and want to get patients, you should be adding the services you offer, the conditions you treat, and the treatment styles you incorporate. Here is a simple few steps you can follow:

  • How can I make money? Create a plan to make money on your website. If you’re a musician, you may want to set up ecommerce to sell merchandise
  • How can I Increase my influence? Create a plan that allows you to rank for keywords, make content easily shareable, and connect to other systems like a CRM or mail system.

4. Build Your Website to Attract Both Your Target Audience and Google

When you build out your personal brand website, it’s important to know that you have at least two main audiences: Your target audience and Google.

  • Your Target Audience

The content on your site needs to attract your target audience. This means that you have to write about what your audience cares about AND also write in a way they can relate to you. It’s important not to focus too much on writing for Google, but prioritize your audience first.

  • Google

While your target audience is most important, Google trails only slightly behind. It’s important that your writing style can be read by Google so that it can be indexed and ranked in Google’s search engines. If you don’t do this, all your hard work will be in vain. You can say the same for other mediums you choose to participate on, like Instagram and Facebook.

5. Learn How to Monetize your Voice

No matter what type of personal brand you’re creating, monetizing your voice is an important part of building a personal brand. If you’re an athlete, why not sell your own merchandise or figure out a way to kickstart your life after sports? Here are some ideas to monetize your voice:

  • Sell ad space on your website, like I do on my therapist directory
  • Sell merchandise if that fits your personal brand
  • Sell your expertise and time if you’re a consultant or professional
  • Create memberships to fans who love your brand
